Shawshank Redemption
Compare the characters of Andy and Red. How are their views about being in jail different? Both characters have different views. Comparing someone that has been in jail for a long amount of time with someone who just got in is a whole lot different. One of their difference is Andy believes in this word called “Hope”, as of Red who doesn’t really believe in it and is disgusted by it. Andy said on one of his lines that “Hope” is probably one of the most important things to have in life. Also, he said that “There is something deep inside your body that people can touch and get to “Hope”. Second point that Andy and Red have different views is that Andy is innocent and he did not kill his wife. Red on the other hand actually murdered someone. So the point is, Andy is there even though he didn’t do anything and he couldn’t accept it. On Red’s point of view, he knows he did it so it’s easier to accept what he is in jail for. The last point is that Red believes that he has nothing outside of jai, because he is institutionalized like Brookes. Andy on the other hand believes he still has something outside of jail, and he would do anything to get out of jail. Aside from their differences, there is something that they have in common. They both gave their inmates a taste of humanity. Red gives them cigarettes while Andy gave them beer and some music. They are both really great people and still keeps the humanity inside their hearts.Miguel Vicencio
